The Gay Blades

HQ: New York City, NY
NOW PLAYING: Ghosts (thegayblades.com)
THE STORY SO FAR: Apparently, these aren't the Gay Blades. No, the real Gay Blades died in a fiery van accident. These guys-vocalist/guitarist Clark Westfield and drummer/vocalist Puppy Mills-are actually circus performers who realized an opportunity and stole the Gay Blades' name, indie pop songs and girlfriends. At least, that's according to Westfield. "We do sometimes tell the true story behind the band," he says. "But only when that person buys us shiny things."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: These are the reasons we can prove: They've played their melodically addictive pop alongside Jimmy Eat World and Mute Math and have been featured on Fuse TV and the syndicated music television showcase Fearless Music. Then there are the reasons we can't prove, again, according to Westfield: "We gave Little Richard a bloody nose for 'toning it down,'" and Mills "taught Keith Richards to smoke." True or not, we can't ignore song titles like "Y Can't I Gro A Beard?" and neither should you. [TJK] YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: SAY ANYTHING, THE KILLERS, OK GO
