HQ: Greensboro, NC NOW PLAYING: Casio Rodeo EP THE STORY SO FAR: When their former bands fell apart prior to the fall of 2005, nobody in indie-pop outfit Mercy Mercedes suspected they'd soon be playing sunny, '80s-inspired tunes. "The music was nothing like either of our previous bands," says guitarist Brandon Ham. "We just started writing music we all loved playing." It wasn't long before the band--vocalist Nate Smith, guitarists Ham and Matt Lovell, bassist Tom Donahue and drummer Michael Arnette--were filling local venues. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Aside from possessing similar quirky dance-pop sensibilities to Hellogoodbye, MM have a track record playing alongside industry heavyweights like Jack's Mannequin, the Academy Is... and Armor For Sleep. They also landed a spot opening the local date of last year's Honda Civic tour with Fall Out Boy and (+44). If it all ended today, Donahue implies that it'd be fine for one reason.
