HQ: Nashville, TN NOW PLAYING: The New Collective Conscience EP THE STORY SO FAR: The friends in Ill Patriot grew up playing together in bands before forming IP this past summer. Though a "new" band, the quartet re-examined their musical past before recording the hardcore-punk of The New Collective Conscience EP. "We all grew up listening to punk rock and eventually became more interested in hardcore, folk and hip-hop," says vocalist Ryan Rado. "To tell you the truth, we stumbled back into punk through the political message of hip-hop." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Ill Patriot have embraced their attraction to politics, expressing their beliefs through gang vocals and punk-heavy anthems. Plus, the band aren't afraid to put their message before the music. "With the mainstream media constantly shoving propaganda in our faces, it's hard to distinguish reality from what they want to sell us," explains Rado. "Hell, Russ [Hickan] didn't even play bass before he joined. Our message is more important to us than shredding." [RL] YOU LIKE?
