HQ: Los Angeles, CANOW PLAYING: Designer Codes THE STORY SO FAR: When you hear that a band practices at a place called "The Cat Toy Factory," you assume that's a clever nickname. But, nope-not in the case of Los Angeles ambient rockers Woven. "It really is a cat toy factory," says frontman Ory Hodis. Formed in high school by "teenagers who never really felt fulfilled hanging out at the mall," Woven have actually already been down the winding major label route and released their debut EP Eprime on Interscope in 2001. Then they decided to be masters of their own destiny. "Now we do everything ourselves." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Bending elements of shoegaze and trip-hop into a Kid A mold, Woven create epic soundscapes that scream for late-night headphone sessions. "We have two drummers, rewired electronics, unconventional playing styles and excessive equipment," says Hodis. "There's always something new to discover in our albums. We love layers and texture. We're like onions." [TJK] YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: OCEANSIZE / DREDG / TEAM SLEEP Official Website: http://www.wovenmusic.com
