HQ: Rochester, NY NOW PLAYING: A Place On Solid Ground THE STORY SO FAR: Maybe you don't have to forgo college to live out your rock 'n' roll dreams. Even though they hoped they'd never need college degrees, the Hoodies (who met in their high school symphony) snagged some anyway before embarking from Upstate New York for underground, indie success. "I've got a bachelor's degree in history and a 3.7 GPA that I'll probably never use," says vocalist and guitarist Dan Armbruster. "We're all pretty smart guys who would rather throw away stability for a chance to make music with our friends." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Student loans come and go, but memories of opening for Gym Class Heroes and Hellogoodbye-like this four-piece have-last forever. And so will the solid SmartPunk sales of their melodic full-length A Place On Solid Ground. Recently wrapping a "three-quarters" U.S. tour, their sing-along anthems leave a lasting impression-and Armbruster is counting on it. "We'll continue making music even if we're in our 70s and people stop listening." [MMU] br> YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: Mae, Copeland, Death Cab For Cutie Official Website: http://www.thehoodies.com
