HQ: Hollister, CA NOW PLAYING: Novice EP THE STORY SO FAR: Alt-rock four-piece Novice have been betraying their name since 2002 with a professional work ethic and a stable West Coast show schedule. As they eye bi-coastal domination-opening for Shiny Toy Guns and Emery along the way-they revel in their varied musical tastes. "We meet a lot of bands where every member has the same favorite band so they sound just like that," says bassist Zack O'Connor, laughing. "[But] our favorite band are the Spice Girls." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Because any band denied access to Canada (they won't say why) comes to play. And aside from their straight-ahead live shows ("We don't have go-go dancers," says O'Connor. "So we focus on playing as tight as possible."), they take the most pride in their unwillingness to buckle to trends. "We've stuck to our guns the entire time without changing to reflect the scene," O'Connor says. "At the end of the day, we have to enjoy the music we play." [TJK] YOU LIKE?
