HQ: Chicago, IL NOW PLAYING: Hangin' Nothin' But Our Hands Down THE STORY SO FAR: Once they realized theoretical physics couldn't hold their attention, the childhood pals who would become Nurses left their respective universities and headed to California, officially forming the band in 2003 before relocating to Chicago. Just because they didn't receive degrees doesn't mean they're slouches. "We toured with Finch a couple years ago," says vocalist/guitarist Aaron Chapman. "We've also done time with Rx Bandits and Maps & Atlases. "We've been really lucky to play for different [types of] crowds." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: For a quartet, Nurses sure do make a lot of noise. Every member contributes vocals-often in falsetto-over dueling piano and guitar lines. A sign the band are truly living the DIY lifestyle: No permanent residences. "We are homeless," Chapman says. "And when we're not playing shows, we support our band by selling popcorn and bottled water in the streets of Chicago's South Side." [RL] YOU LIKE?
