HQ: Cleveland, OH NOW PLAYING: Emergenscenery EP THE STORY SO FAR: Rely formed in September 2004 when five self-described "nice guys" formed one of the highest-energy, prog-tinged indie outfits in Northeast Ohio. Now a six-piece, Rely have mastered honest, aggressive rock that garnered spots opening for everyone from Say Anything to As Cities Burn. But don't look for stereotypical rocker aloofness. "[We're] not in any way a group of rock stars," says vocalist Jim Fallada. "What makes this project work isn't just our chemistry as musicians, but our chemistry as friends." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Their raucous EP Emergenscenery made them a finalist in AP's "Almost Famous" contest last year, and although they're cool with being average guys, they're not cool with their music being that way. "We are trying to push the envelope in a world of mediocre," says guitarist Dave Gatchell of the songs the band are readying for a full-length to be recorded this fall. "Our new material is mind-blowing, even to me." [MMU] YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: Thrice, the Receiving End Of Sirens, Hopesfall Official Website: http://www.myspace.com/relyrock
