From the Editor's Floor: The Gaslight Anthem

WHO'S THE BOSS?
It might be the trend du jour to say you crib notes from Bruce Springsteen, but not everyone has "the Boss" on their side (or, at least, spinning their records) like THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM. "I got a call," says frontman Brian Fallon. "There's this sound guy at Asbury Lanes who was talking to the owner of this record store in Red Bank, New Jersey, the town where I was born, and he was like, 'Hey, you heard of this Gaslight Anthem band?' And he was like, 'Yeah dude, the Boss was in here the other day looking for their CD.' And I'm just like, 'What? That's it. Dream come true. Forget it. I'm done.'"

As for the Boss bandwagon that seems to be getting more and more crowded every day, Fallon sounds like he's trying his best to hold his tongue about it. "I don't want to say Springsteen's more 'mine' than anyone else, but there's this definite revival and it's like, 'I don't hear no Springsteen in your band, dude,'" he says. "Some bands, like the Bouncing Souls, they come out to 'Born To Run.' Good for them--they're Jersey boys. You can hear it in bands like Arcade Fire. But some bands, it's just like, 'Really? Get off this train, it's full.'" --Sam Sutherland
