HQ: Oxnard, CA NOW PLAYING: Genuine Sense Of Outrage (VICTORY) THE STORY SO FAR: While still a 16-year-old high school sophomore in 2000, vocalist Marshall Licthenwaldt began jamming with bassist Mike Pricendorfer and brothers Danny and Donny Phillips (guitar and drums, respectively). Named jointly after the 1979 cult movie and their high school mascot, the Warriors soon caught the ear of Eulogy Recordings and were picked up, subsequently releasing two full lengths. Now on Victory Records, the band are bringing the knuckle sandwiches back to hardcore. "Shows aren't dangerous anymore," says Licthenwaldt. "I remember being up in front at a gig and getting punched in the face by the lead singer and loving it." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: The Warriors are bludgeoning the hardcore scene Baseball Furies-style (Google it) with their progressive hardcore tracing lines between Sick Of It All, Crumbsuckers and Rage Against The Machine. Their latest release, Genuine Sense Of Outrage, moves into even heavier territory (including a cameo from Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister) which isn't surprising considering that aside from Licthenwaldt, the line-up is completely new. Now including guitarists Javier Zarate and Charlie lvarez, bassist Roger Camero and drummer Matt Anderson, the Warriors are pushing hardcore constituents into their way everywhere they go. "I've always believed that we've got to do what makes us happy," says Licthenwaldt. "And that people will respond." Casey Lynch YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: BURY YOUR DEAD / MADBALL / SNAPCASE |
