HQ: Fort Worth, TX
NOW PLAYING: When I Am God (SOLID STATE; solidstaterecords.com)
THE STORY SO FAR: Mansfield, Texas, emo-rocking Terminal seems an unlikely starting point for a metalcore outfit. But after three members (guitarist James Erwin, bassist Lucas Starr-who also played in As Cities Burn-and drummer Ryan Conley) took the departing train from Terminal and hooked up with vocalist Micah Kinard and former Between The Buried And Me guitarist Shane Blay, Oh, Sleeper was off and running, accumulating hype and fans in the Fort Worth area. "Everyone seemed to latch on," says Kinard. "It [was] a pretty warm welcoming." Inking a deal with Solid State last summer, the five-piece released their debut, When I Am God, in October.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Oh, Sleeper may come from rock roots and collectively cite influences from the cream of the mainstream critical-acclaim crop (Nine Inch Nails, Muse), but their brutal sound and spiritual undertones resonate perfectly within the Solid State roster. "[When I Am God] is pretty much about... my struggles with Christianity and trying to do what I think is right," he reveals. "[You have] all these resources, [and] if you don't utilize them, you're gonna fall on your face. If you try to play God in your own life, everything's going to fall apart." -Brian Shultz
