HQ: Long Island, NY NOW PLAYING: Homefront (REVELATION; revelationrecords.com) THE STORY SO FAR: Roaring out of Long Island, New York, in the second half of the '90s, Silent Majority became one of the most influential bands to emerge from the melodic hardcore movement. Their success was due in part to the disarming vocal style of Tommy Corrigan, whose rasp, rage and melodies fused with uncommonly approachable lyrics that personally engaged listeners. So with Corrigan in front, Capital (also featuring members of Thieves And Assassins) shouldn't be surprised they've attracted such a passionate fan base so quickly-even if blending notes of Dag Nasty, Black Flag and Lifetime puts such a distinctive throwback element into play. "I don't think that melodic or punk-influenced hardcore is in the mainstream of the scene right now," says Corrigan. "We're not farming MySpace to get 50,000 fans. It's just what we do." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Without aggressive touring or promotional schemes for Homefront , Capital have become a word-of-mouth phenomenon. Such success might be due in part to the band's seasoned experience making evocative music. "I write my lyrics exactly how I did over 10 years ago," says Corrigan. "There's no pressure. Capital is just a good outlet and everyone who's in the band with me feels the same way. We're all in it for the same reasons: To make music and have fun." -Ronen Kauffman YOU LIKE?
