HQ: Portland, OR

NOW PLAYING: Join Or Die EP (1-2-3-4 GO!; 1234gorecords.com)

THE STORY SO FAR: Originally formed in 2002, the Horde released a self-titled 7-inch, destroyed the Pacific Northwest with their chaotic punk/hardcore in many a dark and dank club, and then collapsed only a year later. But sometimes, corpses need exhuming. "A year and a half goes by [after we originally broke up]," says guitarist Sammy Lugosi, "and we all hang out again and talk about how much we miss the band and playing together. Sure enough, a month later, we're back together writing new material."

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: "[We're] not just your regular punk or hardcore band," Lugosi says. "We have a wide range of influences, and we're constantly try to mix things up with our music, while managing to have fun and just fucking rock out." As the band's Join Or Die EP-which contains their first 7-inch, four brand-new rockers and a brutal cover of the Misfits' "Queen Wasp"-proves, it's pretty clear they've succeeded on the "fucking rock out" front. Although It's hard to imagine people having fun while playing music this intense-but are you gonna argue with a band who unironically use a skull in their logo? -Scott Heisel
