To achieve this goal, he consulted his Baltimore hardcore Rolodex and began circling the names of dudes with the same mindset, giving birth to Ruiner. "I pretty much handpicked people I knew from local bands who I thought would be really good to tour with all the time," says Sullivan. His draft picks were spot-on: The current line-up of drummer Joey Edwards, bassist Stephen Smeal and guitarists Danny Porter and Dustin Thornton (who replaced original guitarist Mitchell Roemer in February) have taken their brand of furious, soul-stripping hardcore to fans on 11 tours since 2004 including a run early this year with This Is Hell. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Ruiner voluntarily chose a life of austerity (read: being "fucking broke") to tour. While the same could be said of the majority of bands out there, most don't finance a year touring Europe, Australia, Japan and South America like Ruiner have planned for this year. While their dedication is inarguable, Sullivan knows you can't please everyone all of the time, hence their album title Prepare To Be Let Down. "Oh, that's just life," he says with a laugh. "It's our second record, and there's always someone who's going to say the old stuff is better. [Even though we're proud of it, we know] this record was destined to bum someone out." -Kevin Stewart-Panko YOU LIKE?
