THE STORY SO FAR: Initially formed in 2004 by sisters Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez, Eyes Set To Kill gradually transitioned from a casual high school band to a serious screamo unit. By the summer of 2007, ESTK had generated internet buzz thanks to their co-ed metal approach and the five-piece (including vocalist/keyboardist Brandon Anderson, guitarist Greg Kerwin and drummer Caleb Clifton) completed their debut, Reach, last fall--with Alexia stepping up from guitarist duties to handle lead vocals after their original singer departed mid-recording.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Suburban Noize Records liked these AP&R alumni (AP 228) so much that the home of Kottonmouth Kings and hed (p.e.) allowed the group to create their own imprint label to release Reach at the beginning of 2007. "[Suburban Noize] didn't necessarily want to put us out on a label with all those rap-rock bands, but they really liked us and wanted to support us," Anderson says. Although it'd be easy for narrow-minded metalheads to discount the band due to its female presence, the band consider it a strong point "Of course there are always going to be people who are like 'You guys are dumb. I don't like girl singers,' but we just keep doing our thing and so far it's been catching on," Anderson says. "If anything, having girls in the band has attracted more attention to us."--Emily Zemler
