NOW PLAYING: Ferocious Mopes (EUPHOBIA; sayhitoyourmom.com) THE STORY SO FAR: We'd like to hand Say Hi To Your Mom two big blue ribbons: One for having the best band name we've heard in years, and one for scoring one of the best MTV promos we've seen in, well, years. You've seen it. It's the one with the dude in a wheelchair set against a tipsy ode to outer space, "Let's Talk About Spaceships," off the band's sophomore album, Numbers & Mumbles. "With all the guff MTV gets for its content, I still think they're on the cutting edge when it comes to the aesthetics of their promos," insists singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Eric Elbogen. "And it paid last month's rent, which is never a bad thing." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Now, we're not ones to start a feud, but we predict that, after SHTYM release their third album, Ferocious Mopes, the Death Cab For Cutie boys may be feeling the heat. Not that Elbogen would lose any of his characteristic modesty: "One of these days, it would be nice to get on a real label, instead of putting out the records myself, like I've done up to this point," he says. "It's been a great experience, but I'm starting to spend all my time stuffing and stamping bubble mailers, and I've been maxing out my credit cards." -Leslie Simon YOU LIKE?
