RIAA TO PAY OVER $100,000 TO ACCUSED FILE SHARER

Posted by Scott Heisel on 16-May-08 @ 05:54 PM

Billboard is reporting that, in a drastic shift from usual events, the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, has been ordered by a judge to pay over $100,000 back to a former defendant accused of file-sharing.

According to Billboard, the award stems from the case brought against Tanya Andersen for illegal file sharing, which was eventually dropped last summer. The Portland single mom is also suing the RIAA for malicious prosecution, and that case remains ongoing. The figure is about a third of what Anderson and her attorney had originally sought, but remains the largest award to a former P2P defendant since the beginning of the RIAA's litigation effort began.
