BLOC PARTY SINGER ACCUSES JOHN LYDON (SEX PISTOLS) OF RACISM AFTER SCUFFLEPosted by Brian Shultz on 23-Jul-08 @ 09:57 PM
Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has laid accusations of racism against John Lydon, the singer of the Sex Pistols after a recent fight that also involved Ricky Wilson and Yannis Philippakis, the respective frontmen of Kaiser Chiefs and Foals.
The fight broke out at Barcelona's Summercase Festival this past Saturday evening. Okereke, who is of Nigerian descent, reportedly approached Lydon "backstage and asked him about the possibility of a reunion for Public Image Ltd, the band Lydon formed following the Sex Pistols demise in 1978," when, in Okereke's words, Lydon became "intimidating and aggressive while his entourage responded with a racist tirade, including the statement, 'your problem is your black attitude'." Lydon responded to Okereke's version by saying, "I feel very sorry for a man that needs to lie about what was a perfect evening," and claimed that, "trouble was brought us, resulting in those causing the trouble being physically removed by festival security." Philippakis and Wilson had jumped to the aid of Okereke in the scuffle, who suffered "severe facial bruising" and a split lip. [ |
