Gwen Stacy vocalist departs band

Alternative Press - Brian Shultz on 11/23/08 @ 10:37 PM - altpress.com

Continuing with the news of vocalists leaving bands, Indianapolis metalcore act Gwen Stacy has lost vocalist Bobby Oakley.

"He has decided that his heart is no longer with being in a touring band," the band said. "He's off to finish his degree in Graphic Design and spend time with loved ones."

Oakley's departure marks the band's second change in regiment in under a year for singers, having replaced Cole Wallace earlier this year.

Taking Oakley's place, at least for the time being, will be former Oceana throat guy Keith Jones, who will finish out the band's current tour with Stick To Your Guns.

The band released The Life I Know earlier this year on Ferret.

Paper Rival break up

Alternative Press - Brian Shultz on 11/23/08 @ 10:26 PM - altpress.com

Nashville, TN indie-rockers Paper Rival have broken up.

The band cited the departure of vocalist Jacob Rolleston as the reason:

"We have recently been informed that Jacob has left the band to go back to school. Thus, Paper Rival as you know it is no more. We wish Jacob the best of luck with whatever it is he chooses to pursue."

Rolleston responded to the post shortly thereafter in a rather revealing message. The post initially has him explaining that "School was NOT the reason that I left the band. I have always wanted to go to college and get a degree and leaving the band has made that desire far more palpable. However, I left the band because I was not happy."

Rolleston goes on to cite disappointments over the recording of their full-length ("I felt like more effort had been put in to making the songs SOUND good than to actually BE good.") and losing money on tour, as well as "touring...with three to four other guys who I would consider friends but...they would consider...business partners."

The band began with the name Keating, changing it in 2007 in time for Photo Finish Records' release of that aforementioned full-length, Dialog. They also released two EPs: 2005's DIY Thieves and Photo Finish's 2007 self-titled.
