No Doubt to reunite; tour, new album planned

Alternative Press - Brian Shultz on 11/22/08 @ 9:23 PM - altpress.com

No Doubt have announced plans to reunite via a clever little chat flash thing on their website. It looks as though the band will tour and record a new album in 2009.

Arguably the most commercially successful band that could ever be filed under the third wave ska heading, the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2004 as frontwoman Gwen Stefani went on to focus on her enormously successful solo career. Their last release was 2001's Rock Steady, with a singles collection following in 2003.

Travis Barker has sued Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., as well as an airplane maintenance company. The former are the owners of the plane that crashed in September, critically injuring himself and friend DJ AM, and which took the lives of four others.

Barker is seeking more than $25,000 in damages for pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of earnings, and medical and legal expenses.

Thelma Martin Still, the mother of Barker bodyguard Charles Monroe Still Jr. who was one of the four killed, joined in the suit for damages including grief and sorrow, funeral expenses and loss of earnings.

After the crash, Barker spent some time in the hospital recovering from severe burns.

Jeremy Enigk discusses new "heavier rock" album

Alternative Press - Brian Shultz on 11/21/08 @ 4:14 PM - altpress.com

Jeremy Enigk recently discussed the making of his newest album, OK Bear.

The former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman recorded the album just outside Barcelona, Spain, with a group of local musicians. "These guys are Sunny Day Real Estate fans," he mentions, "and the moment they got their hands on my songs, whether they were mellow or not, they turned them into heavy rockers.

"This is probably the first time I've ever dabbled with a country feel," adds Enigk. "Because it's me, it doesn't sound like a country song too much, but you can hear the influence."

OK Bear is slated for a February 2009 release on Enigk's Lewis Hollow label.

Enigk is currently on a solo tour in support of last year's new material / acoustic collection, The Missing Link. It's said he's playing several new songs from OK Bear as well as "precious few" SDRE songs.

Portugal. The Man "making new album soon"

Alternative Press - Brian Shultz on 11/21/08 @ 4:09 PM - altpress.com

Portugal. The Man have unsurprisingly mentioned that they will be making a new album soon, despite just releasing their newest, Censored Colors, on September 16th.

Censored Colors, which was co-released through Equal Vision and the band's own label, Approaching AIRballoons, was the band's third full-length in a little under three years. It was also their third overall, with a slew of EPs being released the past few years as well.

One imagines this upcoming album will be out some time in 2009.
