The Twilight Saga: New Moon tour to kick off Nov. 6

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 10/30/09 @ 11:06 AM - altpress.com

A tour has been announced featuring artists from The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack and several actors from the film. Death Cab For Cutie, Anya Marina, Sea Wolf and Band Of Skulls--all of whom have songs on the soundtrack--are set to play the tour kickoff on Nov. 6 in Los Angeles before embarking on a mall tour of 14 more dates across the country. Members of the cast will also be along for the ride to be a part of Q&A sessions with fans. No word on which actors will be taking part or if all the bands will play every date.

In its first week in stores and online, the soundtrack to New Moon has risen to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album, which features music by Death Cab For Cutie, Muse and more, debuted four days earlier than scheduled, but still debuted at No. 2 after an abbreviated week of sales. The soundtrack to 2008's Twilight also reached the top spot on the chart, making this the first time in history that a movie soundtrack and the soundtrack to its sequel both topped the chart.

Tour dates are as follows:
11/06 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood & Highland Center
11/08 - Denver, CO @ Park Meadows
11/09 - Boston, MA @ Natick Collection

Chuck Biscuits death reports allegedly a hoax

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 10/29/09 @ 10:51 PM - altpress.com

Earlier today, blogs and websites began reporting that Social Distortion and Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits (Charles Montgomery) had succumbed to throat cancer. After it showed up on a number of reputable news sites, even we picked up the story. However, James Greene, the author of the original story now has statements from the drummer's family stating that Chuck is still alive.

The author received the following e-mail from the wife of Montgomery's brother. "This note is on behalf of Bob Montgomery, who ask me (his wife) to let you know that CHUCK IS ALIVE. Bob is on his way to see him now and will send you a follow up email in the near future."

Greene says on his site that he had been in contact with a couple claiming to be Charles Montgomery and his wife since May, and that he may have fallen victim to an "elaborate hoax."

A post on his site reads: "Rumors are beginning to swirl that this is some kind of elaborate hoax. If so, I can assure you I am NOT in on it. I have previously chronicled my contact with Chuck/person(s) claiming to be Chuck(?) and never had any reason to disbelieve their claims...

...All I can tell you is I've been communicating with two people since May I was always 99.999% sure were THE Chuck Biscuits and his wife from e-mail addresses bearing their names. They never asked me to wire money to a Nigerian prince or adopt their child, so I took it all at face value.

Chuck's wife is allegedly the one who has been sending out mass e-mails about Chuck's condition to family and friends; I didn't use her name below because I didn't know if she'd be comfortable with that and it didn't seem like a good time to bring it up, considering her husband was dying. I'm still not going to use her name on the same grounds.

Although I can't imagine why a former member of Danzig would want to fake his own death via the Internet, I know plenty of people who severely dislike me and would take any chance they could to play on my gullibility to make me look as stupid as possible (i.e. e-mail me for six months pretending to be a dying drummer I admire). If this is all a big fat lie, I'm sorry, but I promise I was duped just as hard as you.]"

This all comes only a few weeks after a false rumor was started that Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley had died.

We wanna know: What do you think of all this?

Copeland break up

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 10/29/09 @ 1:03 PM - altpress.com

Copeland have announced that they will break up after their spring tour. The Florida foursome formed in 2000 and released their latest album, The Grey Man EP, in February. The band also says that there may be one more album released before parting ways. They have released the following statement:

"Dear friends,

We have come to an extremely difficult decision. It has come time for us to move on from Copeland and follow other paths in our lives. We are absolutely grateful to have been able to make music for as long as we have. In the last 9 years we've been able to see parts of the world that we never dreamt we would see. We have shared the stage and built friendships with immensely talented artists. We've been afforded the opportunity to make 4 records that we're extremely proud of. Most of all, we feel honored that people have cared so much for our band and for our art. We appreciate every listener who has allowed our music to be a part of their lives. We want to offer our deepest thanks to every individual who has supported us on this ride. It has profoundly impacted our lives.

To put your minds at ease, we assure you this is not a bitter break up. We all individually feel Copeland has run its course in our lives and it's time for us to pursue what is next. We couldn't end things without a proper goodbye, so we are planning a final farewell tour in the US this coming Spring, as well as one final jaunt around the world to some of our favorite countries. We are really excited about seeing you all one more time, and we hope it turns out to be the best Copeland tour ever.

It has been discussed and we are not ruling out the possibility of recording one more album sometime in the future. However, this spring tour will be our last.

From the bottom of hearts, thank you for all of your love and support.

Aaron, Bryan, Jon & Stephen"
