Butch Walker and Brendon Urie create American Psycho spoof

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 2/17/10 @ 1:17 PM - altpress.com

Butch Walker and Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie teamed up with video director Shane Valdes to create a parody of the Christian Bale film, American Psycho. In the video, Urie plays a super-fan who purchased a $25,000 pre-order of Walker's upcoming album, I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart, and as part of the deal, Urie gets to spend the day with Walker. But if you've seen American Psycho, you know things won't go all that well.

The album drops Feb. 23 and you can check out the video here.

Nine hospitalized after Alexisonfire performance at the Olympics

Alternative Press - Nichole Fazekas on 2/17/10 @ 10:48 AM - altpress.com

A free concert last night featuring Alexisonfire at Yaletown LiveCity surrounding the Olympics in Vancouver was stopped almost immediately when surging crowds knocked over a barricade near the stage. About 20 fans were treated for injuries and nine were moved to an area hospital. Only one person suffered serious injuries--a compound leg fracture. The Canadian band had only played for about 10 seconds when the crowd pushed forward and the fence failed. The concert was immediately canceled.

As the crowd continued to wait, the members of Alexisonfire took the stage to explain the situation. "We were all so excited that you completely decimated the whole barrier," said guitarist/vocalist Wade MacNeil. "The reality of the situation is that it's completely destroyed and it's really dangerous and there's an incredible amount of sharp objects up here and a lot of people got hurt when that happened."

As vocalist George Pettit announced that the show was canceled and repeatedly apologized to the crowd, he was greeted with boos. The band promised to "make it up" to fans in the future.

Check out video of the incident below.

Wow, that was an angry crowd. If only one of the members of Alexisonfire had a wildly popular acoustic side project and could perform on the fly to help calm down the thousands of disappointed fans... I guess that's just a pipe dream.

sinkthroughyourskin
Here's the thing... shit happens. It's not the end of the world that this show got cancelled. It's also very easy for the crowd to bitch about the show being cancelled, they weren't the ones who got hurt were they? I think people need to be a bit more understanding when things go wrong... Ps. To AP_Scott, haha ya you would think that Dallas would have maybe played a few songs to appease the crowd... but then again most Alexis fans I know, aren't huge City and Colour fans. Personally I'm a huge fan of both!

LeahintheStreet
Another perfect example of people not giving a crap about the well being of anybody else. I can't believe the crowd started chanting what they did at the end of the video...is it too hard to understand that it was a dangerous situation and multiple people already got hurt? No one in charge would let a concert go on after that many people got injured and after a barrier failed like that. It's just not safe. The band was great in their explanation and I respect them for it; the people booing and chanting should be ashamed and certainly should have been more understanding.

LeavingInnuendo
Seriously? This crowd kinda makes me ashamed to be an Alexisonfire fan, being considered one of them. Do they just not care that 20 people got hurt, half of them being sent to the hospital? And holding it against the band is just crap. I'm willing to bet that they had no say at all on whether they would still play the set or not. Those fans booing and chanting need to grow up and realize that the world does not revolve around them.

richardradical
why would the crowd make you ashamed of being a fan? that's not too smart big guy. anyway... tradegy... i, like south park, blame canada

LeavingInnuendo
I'm not ashamed of being an Alexisonfire fan. But when someone watches this clip, they're going to think that that's how all of us Alexisonfire fans are, because that is how we're being represented. that's what I'm ashamed of.

Caty.Chaos
I love City & Colour, but i wouldnt call them wildly popular.

The new song is awesome (and the artwork is so cool!) Really looking forward to hearing the rest of the new album and hopefully seeing Circa with Coheed & Cambria when that tour rolls around.

AP_Scott
This song is fucking DOPE. Can't wait to hear the rest of this record and play it at an extremely loud volume.

What's this? News on AP I'm not disgusted at, disinterested in, or pissed off with? It feels good to be genuinely excited about something musical again. Love the song!! I'm kind of meh about Coheed, but the only Ohio date is Cleveland so I couldn't go anyway.

aheadoftheCURVEtype
I agree with above. This is the first time I've been truly excited about music in at least a year. I thought I was just getting old.... until I heard this. I definitely can't wait for this album!

aylettbean

ashiedroid
no lie this is the best news that i have heard in a long time. circa are by far the best band right now and that new song is amazing, i cant wait to see them at bamboozle and at fox theatre. it will be the best shows ever.

LuckyFin31
I remember a certain most anticipated issue that had Circa in it over a year ago haha but I am patient. Havnt heard the ew song yet but will get after it this weekend. This news was made just a little sweeter with the announcement of the Coheed tour. Two awesome groups putting out new material and touring together behind the new albums is super. This spring is loaded with awesome releases and tours. Too bad for those student loan payments making me broke :( hah

no Nashville, huh? Guess I gotta drive to ATL then...boo

Angels & Airwaves opened for Weezer when I saw them back in 2008, and they had lasers and lights and timpani percussion solos and it was so cool!! Except for the fact that it was dead boring and the music sucked. Say Anything sold out the House of Blues in Boston back in October, and that was before their self-titled was released and sold an insane number of copies, why are they opening for an insincere emo Muse ripoff? Stick with Blink-182 Tom (and don't get completely wasted before the reunion shows please)

aceguitarist3
B.S. that they're hitting the major Canadian cities except Montreal. They always come to Montreal for their past tours.

asianfriend182
drownthefish23 your a pussy what tom is doing with angels and airwaves in life changing whether they are good live or not doesn't matter it's the message they are sending out you're just to stupid to see that obviously, and Tom getting wasted for the blink shows that's what make's them blink shows you can never call your self a blink fan you should be ashamed for insulting a legend in rock music.

drownthefish23
A band can be awesome and still do things wrong, because the people in it aren't perfect. They can get sick and have to cancel shows, fight and break up, put out a bad album, or in this case drink too much before a show and end up slurring their speech, having trouble forming sentences, and sounding lousy. It was a good show, but you can't possibly think that's what makes them Blink-182, and it sure as hell is not what I paid $60 for (and I wasn't even in the highest price level). NOW, what I dislike about AVA is that their message isn't overwhelmingly original, it's the same you can here in all generic emo music and the trippy alt-rock they try to acheive is better in the bands they imitate

Straylight Run go on indefinite hiatus

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 2/16/10 @ 10:45 AM - altpress.com

Straylight Run have announced that they are going on "indefinite hiatus." The band formed after vocalist/guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left Taking Back Sunday in 2003, going on to add drummer Will Noon and Nolan's sister Michelle DaRosa on vocals and keyboards. DaRosa left Straylight in 2008 and later formed Destry, leaving Nolan, Cooper and Nolan as a trio. Straylight released two full-lengths and three EPs including 2009's About Time.

In a blog on the band's MySpace and Tumblr pages, Straylight posted a statement saying that the members will be open to working together again in the future, and they still have plans to release their planned live album.

The statement reads:

"We are very sad to announce to you that we will be going on an indefinite hiatus. We call it a hiatus and not a break up because the band still enjoys working together and is open to the idea of doing so in the future. If it was up to us we would continue making music throughout this year and the years to come, but the unfortunate reality is that being in a band is a business and when business isn't good you can only keep going for so long.

We are still making plans to release the live album that we recorded at the end of our last tour. As of now there is no release date though, so stay tuned for more information on that.

We would like to thank everyone one of you who ever came to a show, bought one of our records, took us on tour or supported us in any way at all over the nearly seven years that we've been a band. We'd also like to thank everyone that has worked for us, especially Dave Stein, Andrew Buck, Dayna Ghiraldi, Shannon Kimball and everyone at Padell. We have had an amazing time and feel so incredibly grateful to you all for everything we've experienced throughout our years as a band. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
