Agnostic Front - WarriorsPosted by Laila Hanson on 21-May-08 @ 02:37 PM
[3.5/5]Is it really possible Agnostic Front are creeping up on their 26th birthday? Friends, it's true. Regardless, most AF fans will be pleased to hear Warriors sees a significant shift away from the "tough-guy" sensibilities on their last release, Another Voice, which raised some eyebrows among fans of this band's otherwise distinct crossover sound. Instead, Warriors brings AF's sweet, sweet blend of hardcore punk and metal back to a somewhat more proper and recognizable and thrashy form. Warriors breathes new life into AF, as the production-courtesy of vocalist Roger Miret's brother (and Madball frontman) Freddy Cricien-remains big and bad enough to be contemporary while still adapting to the classic and raw elements that have defined this band's best efforts over the years. The name of the AF game has long been musical aggression fused with a demand for social justice, and the band have approached that standard many ways throughout their tenure; in the form of pounding crossover (sans Oi!), that spirit is found here in spades. Complete with nostalgia for the old days and love for the Lower East Side, you have to hand it to Agnostic Front for linking the past with the present so successfully.
