Hell awaits...

Savious - Into Abaddon

[4/5]
Led by drummer Scott Batiste and guitarist/vocalist Austin Barber, Oakland, California, riff-rock quadrangle Saviours write songs that channel an arcane mytho-mysticism of their own design, pounding home each unintelligible lyric with a hi-watt cannonade of drum domination and sheer amplified force. Produced, engineered and mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age), Into Abaddon is seemingly carved from the same stereo slab as Metallica's Kill 'Em All, leaving the Saviours' severe guitar punishment and occasionally NWOBHM-inspired shred to thunder through a fuzzed-out echo-chasm that brings ecstatic resonance to every heavily distorted note. The result is a near-fatal overdose for riff addicts, sidebangers and motörheads alike, a metallic monolith that stands skull, shoulders and hairy tattooed torso above the band's 2006 Level Plane full-length, Crucifire. Presumably, legions will be conquered, enemies driven before victors and the lamentations of womenfolk will reverberate throughout Saviours' ever-expanding underground empire. The only question now is one of trajectory: Once you've been to Abaddon (aka the ancient Hebrew version of hell) and lived to tell the tale, where do you go next? (KEMADO) J. Bennett
