Tera Melos - Drugs To The Dear Youth

[2.5/5]
Where one arrangement ends and another begins, you'll never know. What this music means with regards to culture, ambiance, scenes or art remains to be, um, seen. What Tera Melos' Drugs To The Dear Youth conveys is that the debilitating audio-vascular workout required to sit through it is enough to make you long for the days when bands kicked it in 4/4 time and, you know, sang words. It's not that songs like "Guy Vs. D.C. Sniper" don't harness some of the most fearsome chops this side of the prog-punk upheaval. If there's one thing the album shows, it's indomitable technicality-which would be fine if it weren't being used to morph into the equivalent of listening to a blender full of Metallica, Hella and Frank Zappa records. Live, it's a whole different story; but on wax, it's just tedious. (SARGENT HOUSE) Ryan Prado
