Dub Trio - Another Sound Is DyingPosted by Laila Hanson on 02-Jun-08 @ 03:09 PM
[4/5]Just as Refused turned aggressive rock music on its ear with The Shape Of Punk To Come, so follows the intoxicating formula of Dub Trio's third album, Another Sound Is Dying. The otherworldly coupling of droning guitars, punishing skin work and healthy inflections of dub snare accents catapult the opening track, "Not For Nothing," into spooky realms. The polyrhythmic experiments seem to sprout fangs, which sink, drooling, into your neck's flesh with astounding ease. Even though a majority of the album is sans vocals, there's a magnetic quality to tracks like "Mortar Dub" that simply cannot be ignored. "Who Wants To Die?" purges filthy stoner-metal and psychedelic breakdowns-eerie blots of noise litter the soundscape and implore you to pay attention. Whether they're grooving in reverb-heavy dub or melting eardrums with sinister heavy-metal riffage, Another Sound Is Dying, despite the title connotation, is indeed giving birth to a stirring new noise.
