Teenage Bottlerocket - Warning DevicePosted by Laila Hanson on 03-Jun-08 @ 04:50 PM
[3.5/5]In the tradition of Screeching Weasel-via-Ramones, meet the new kings of good-times woah-oh pop-punk: Laramie, Wyoming's Teenage Bottlerocket. Including ex-Lillingtons frontman Kody Templeman and identical twins Ray and Brandon Carlisle, all the elements are present in skillfully measured proportion; catchy choruses, leather jackets with punk pins and songs about girls and/or feeling like a weirdo. Warning Device is buttloads of fun, which is the right idea when it comes to this traditional old-school style of punk rock. While there is some degree of anonymity in music that so strictly adheres to any specific form, that's probably part of TB's implicit artistic statement anyway (or something like that). Warning Device is substantial and infectious despite its familiarity, and a few truly memorable songs ("In The Basement" and "Pacemaker" for example) will surely elevate Teenage Bottlerocket's status among pop-punk fans.
