Javelina - JavelinaPosted by Jennifer Grathwol on 27-Aug-08 @ 01:39 PM
[3/5]Sad but true: It's inadvisable to spend your whole life listening to nothing but the live version of "Lord Of Light" (a seven-minute Lemmy bass solo disguised as a song) from Hawkwind's Space Ritual. Sometimes you have to listen to something else, if only to make "Lord Of Light" sound that much more brain-grindingly awesome the next time you hear it. You should not, however, listen to Javelina's self-titled album as a replacement for "Lord Of Light." You should listen to it as a replacement for Helmet or Crowbar, as Javelina's songs are basically a combination of greasy Southern sludge and Hamiltonian precision riff-jackhammering. The vocals are hoarse and redolent of desperation; guitars grind in low gear; drums clatter and hit; and songs have titles like "1000 Pound Man" and "Throttled." Decent, heavy, but really only useful as a break from other, better music. (TRANSLATION LOSS) Phil Freeman Official Website: http://www.translationloss.com
