Band Of Horses - Everything All The Time

[2/5] For almost 10 years, Mat Brooke and Ben Bridwell made their bacon in Seattle indie-pop sad sacks Carissa's Wierd. And where he played drums in that band, Bridwell handles the vocal work in Band Of Horses--which, while it obviously changes the new band's sound, doesn't really change the affect, per se. No matter how cleverly hipsters try to re-imagine it, languid alt-country is, and always will be, languid alt-country--even if its newly sprouted beard is admirable and that cowboy hat looks kinda cool. "Wicked Gil" is probably the prize, um, stallion of this pack; it's a tuneful little toe-tapper the band hammer out in sensibly austere fashion. But don't let that lone endorsement mislead you; this ain't no spaghetti western. Rather, Everything All The Time is almost pitifully lacking in soul, and it suffers from a few real snoozers, to boot. Plan your nap schedule accordingly. (SUB POP) Tristan Staddon
