Gatsbys American Dream - Gatsbys American DreamPosted by Tim Karan on 05-Dec-06 @ 05:38 PM
[5/5] Sure, Atreyu and Dragonforce both released loud records this year, but the angriest record you'll hear in 2K6 is Gatsbys American Dream. Since 2005's excellent Volcano, GAD have toured their collective ass off, added two members and, it seems, learned tough lessons about the music industry the hard way-by living through them. Their next move? Creating an album completely devoid of filler (and auto-tuning) that's chockfull of scathing postmodern pop smarts, guitar gymnastics, Nic Newsham's expected (but no less awesome) vocal theatrics, and a whole lotta soul. "I've got to write these songs, so you remember that you believe in music," Newsham wails on the album's centerpiece, "Margaritas And Cock." If you're a band keen on biting Gatsbys' style, you've got great taste. But you don't stand a chance at re-creating their rock.
