Amster-damn!

Voicst - 11-11

[4/5] Apparently, Voicst is South African slang for "manic energy." There's no shortage of that here, from the power-pop kicks of "Whatever You Want From Life" to "Acts Of Fire," a dance-punk track that single-handedly explains why the band would leave their homes in Amsterdam (where the good things in life are legal) just to work with Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) in New York City. But Voicst's hooks are just as solid on the milder-mannered cuts, especially "Detail 2003," a standout so soft, you could practically call it a ballad. Plus, they've got cool accents, the better to pull off a vocal stance that sometimes makes you wonder if they picked up English while attending a Kiss show. (DUURTLANG/INTRIGUE) Ed Masley
