Maserati - Inventions For The New Season
[4/5]
What Lost In Translation did for most people who watched it is what Inventions For The New Season can do for you when you listen to it. Rather than the imagery, it's the sounds that will place you in downtown Tokyo: "12/16" sets the listener right below the circus of lights in the skyline, the frenetic rhythms of the band keeping in time with the feet of the thousands walking the streets, and the gorgeous guitar tones making the neon lights glimmer from the signs. This record is all about state of mind, and the varied instrumentations have the capacity to take you anywhere yours will allow. Each song is unique but able to keep the flow of the song before it; this dichotomy allows Maserati to change tones, tempos and directions at the drop of a hat while keeping the continuity so important to its success. It's fast-paced, shimmering, crashing and gorgeous; it's Tokyo, it's Maserati. (TEMPORARY RESIDENCE LTD) Jordan Rogowski
