Montreal/NYC duo are primed to cause panic at the disco.

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork

[3/5

Boys just want to have fun(k), too, apparently. Vice-sponsored wisenheimers Chromeo (Dave 1 and P-Thugg) survived the electroclash backlash with panache, issuing a poppin' debut disc She's In Control in 2004, which winked at its own ironic/iconic cheesiness even as it made you shake that azz with its coke-caked electro boogie. With Fancy Footwork, Chromeo upgraded their production values and improved their songwriting chops. The tracks are both funkier and catchier, with more sophisticated, punchier percussion detail and textural highlights (Paisley Park Studios wants its keyboards back, fellas). Whereas She's In Control sounded slightly thin and tinny, Fancy Footwork puts on weight in all the right places and artfully piles on the glitter. This sophomore full-length wears its newly found voluptuousness well; even the extra layer of cheesy fat in the vocal department and yacht-rock guitar squeals go down easy. (VICE) Dave Segal
