It stands a little short.
Josh Small - Tall By Josh Small
[2.5/5]Josh Small's set at The Fest 4 in Gainesville, Florida, in 2005 was superb. It was a bare-bones performance with just Small-who is a Richmond, Virginia, scene fixture and current member of Tim Barry's backing band-and his banjo. Tall By Josh Small offers the same twangy folk sound with a touch of '70s rock plus the addition of a backing band on most of the tracks. The augmented sound takes away from Small's talent and makes the sincerity heard when he's solo fall flat. The album's highlights are definitely found when Small performs alone, particularly "My Confessions." The album is far from unlistenable; but it's nothing to write home about, best suited for a lazy Sunday afternoon. (SUBURBAN HOME) Kira Wisniewski Official Website: http://www.suburbanhomerecords.com
