Margarita Levieva: Not Just A Pretty Face
|
MARGARITA LEVIEVA-actress, psychologist and economist-is the epitome of a Renaissance woman. Her previous roles, which are all over the map, show that she can adapt any part and refuses to be typecast. Watch her this month alongside Justin Chatwin in The Invisible, fall in love and when she gets huge, you can say you knew her when. Tell me a little bit about your role in The Invisible. I play a character named Annie. She lost her mother when she was about 13 years old. She lives in a family where her father is abusive. Her outlook on [life] is that the world isn't fair; everyone's fake. She's just really, really angry. How does that type of role compare to other roles you've played before? Well, it was my first studio role. Before I did The Invisible, I did a pilot for the WB called The Prince that never came out. The character I played [wasn't] really evil, but she's this really bright, happy, manipulative, Upper East Side rich girl-very different from Annie. When you were shooting The Invisible, was there anything particularly challenging about the process? Emotionally, it was a hard place to be in because it is such a dark role. Physically, it was also challenging because there were a lot of fight sequences and a lot of chasing. And sometimes in the fight sequences, because it was so easy for me to find her rage, I'd get scared that I'd actually hurt an actor. Did you hurt yourself at all during the fights? I hurt both of my knees. There was a sequence I had to do where I had to jump off of a fence down to the ground and roll backwards. I actually still haven't recovered. So when you're not kicking ass, what are you listening to? My iPod has the most random selection. I listen to everyone from Santana to hip hop to opera to classical music to world music. I'm really all over the place. Do you have anything on your iPod that's an embarrassing guilty pleasure? Probably that song by Amber called "Sexual." -Sarah Danke CHEAT SHEET: After earning two degrees at NYU (in economics and psychology) and interning at a hedge fund, Margarita Levieva discovered her passion for acting and landed her first starring role as Marcy Collins in the now-canceled FOX thriller Vanished; this month, in addition to being featured in the new Snow Patrol video, Levieva plays the haunting lead in The Invisible.
