Also Starring: Linday Sloane

Although her name may not be as familiar as, say, Angela Chase, Lindsay Sloane has been in the acting game since the early '90s as a character on the two most influential coming-of-age dramas of all time: The Wonder Years and My So-Called Life. This month, Sloane plays Uma Thurman's crazy assistant in the romantic comedy The Accidental Husband--but trust us, her adulthood success is no fluke.

You've been acting since you were 8. Have you ever had a regular job?
No, I know a lot of people can't say it, but I've been fortunate enough to just act my whole life, which has been wonderful. I mean, I was a little envious growing up because friends of mine had jobs at the Gap or Kenny Rogers Roasters and it seemed like there was something I was missing out on. But in the end, I think I got the better end of the deal. [Laughs.]

How does it feel to have been a part of My So-Called Life and The Wonder Years now that you're an adult?
It's so great. Everyone knows The Wonder Years and everyone relates to that show in a sense-and I also think My So-Called Life is the same way; everyone saw themselves in that show, especially my generation. I feel even now to this day when I walk into a room and people see that on my résumé, it gives me a little bit of street cred.

Speaking of street cred, what have you been rocking on your iPod lately?
Well, my husband is a major music buff, so it's kind of changed my life because I think I was stuck on Top 40 radio and Broadway show tunes until I met him. [Laughs.] Now I listen to stuff like Rilo Kiley, Sparklehorse and the Strokes. I love Rilo Kiley's Under The Blacklight; I probably play that 400 times a day.

What's your character like in The Accidental Husband?
In the movie, Uma [Thurman] plays a relationship radio host who gives love advice and I'm her wacky assistant/female confidant. She ends up giving advice to a relationship that [breaks]-and then in the process of trying to repair that relationship, she ends up falling in love with the guy and is torn between two men. It's, like, a crazy romantic comedy!

A lot of the stuff you've done so far has been very wholesome. Have you ever wanted to play someone who was certifiably insane?
Yeah, definitely, but it's a hard transition in this business when people have known you since you were 8 years old and watched you grow up. You really have to kind of prove to them like, "No, I'm dark and edgy!" [Laughs.] Believe me, I can be a prostitute or a drug addict, I swear! ALT

CHEAT SHEET >> You might still recognize Lindsay Sloane as Valerie from TV's SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH or Big Red from BRING IT ON, but more recently Sloane can be seen opposite Paul Rudd in OVER HER DEAD BODY and as Uma Thurman's assistant in this month's THE ACCIDENTAL HUSBAND. ALT
